problems with getting the additional key (if the room was booked for two there should be two keys) We stayed at this hotel for about two weeks over Christmas and New Year. Hotel has an excellent location, very good staff and nice rooms. The only thing I can complain about is not being able to get the second key (without some kind of deposit??) and sometimes there was not enough hot water to shower. Generally a good value for money.

Good location, close to the beach; breakfast was pretty good also. Everything about the Sugar Palm was average at best, including the service. Had problems with toilet & sink in the room and no-one seemed to care; rooms were very basic with no character; we were charged an incredibly high amount for making international calls from the room; pool area was below-par - limited seating & never got any sun, black tiles didn't make for a very appealing pool! Also, despite being advertised, there was no bar/pool bar & internet/computers were generally very slow, when they worked. I wouldn't recommend the Sugar Palm, or at least I would recommend shopping around before choosing it. Everything about the place was average, or probably below-average. It was clean & tidy, but could have been better; rooms are bare & basic; service was quite poor & unresponsive. Considering that it was not a cheap hotel by any means I expected a lot more.
Nightlife Tip : Dinner at Rico's & drinks at Sca Bar on the beach

the bathroom and bathtub, the nearby restaurants and massage salons many rooms were very outdated and dirty, the linens were not clean, toiletries were not replenished each day when used we traveled to several cities in Thailand and were extremely pleased with all accommodations except at the sugar palm in kata. this was our most expensive hotel by far and it did not live up to adequate expectations. the first room they put us in was dirty--it had cobwebs, the shower was disgusting, the lights flickered like a strobe light and the toilet was broken. the staff accommodated us quickly into a nicer room that we were happier with for our 5-night stay.
Hotel Feature Tip : the superior room is old, dirty and probably not what what you want. i would recommend the deluxe room in the newer section of the hotel.
